PROJECT GOAL:
Design both a front cover and back cover for an album that you resonate with, create a side A and side B sticker as well.
Create a visually cohesive album cover recreation that expresses the music's sound within the design. To capture that sound, we were to shoot the photos for the project and create the type for the front and back cover.
Process:
I decided to pick Inhaler's newest album, Open Wide. Inhaler is an Indie Rock-Band from Dublin, Ireland. The messaging behind the album and title is the complex feelings behind letting your partner treat you poorly, while still having your arms out "Open Wide" for them.
I wanted to portray that feeling of inner turmoil that a person would be going through while they fight their heart and their brain.
I started off by focusing on what I wanted my photographs to look like. I knew I wanted to have a lot of complex colors, emphasizing the many emotions they would be feeling.
After shooting my photos, I started to explore different ways I could use type to further emphasize the album's tone. I started with all different kinds of type, but I knew I wanted it to be clean and bold.
For the back cover, I wanted to maintain the same appearance as the cover, but make it still discernible from the front cover.
Final design:
My final design choice reflects the genre of music, as well as the messages that come from the album. The bold text is a parallel to how the thoughts you keep in so badly want to come out.
